Butter Rum Sauce

  1/2 cup cold water
  2 teaspoons cornstarch
  1 cup brown sugar
  1/3 cup white sugar
  1 stick butter
  2-3 tablespoons walnut oil
  1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  1 pinch salt
  1/4 cup brandy

1/2 cup rum

  1 tablespoon vanilla extract

Blend sugar and cornstarch in cold water. Pour into a sauce pan and bring to simmer. Stir until thickened. As you continue to stir, add all remaining ingredients and cook for 10 minutes.


What do you do with the sauce? My preference is to saturate a vanilla pound cake with the sauce. And I do mean saturate! ;-)
